Homelessness is a widespread and visible problem throughout the world. In the United Kingdom, Invisible Cities raises awareness of the problem while empowering people who have experienced homelessness to become walking tour guides in their own cities.

The social enterprise has established a model that economically supports formerly homeless people, educates local residents about homelessness, and provides tourists with a new way of visiting a destination.

"One of the most common pieces of feedback we get is that it's like going on a tour with a friend," says founder Zakia Moulaoui.

Invisible Cities addresses several sustainable development goals, most notably #4 (decent work and economic growth) and #10 (reduced inequalities).

Highlights of this free case study:

  • Why it is difficult working as a social enterprise in the tourism space, and what that means for accessing certain markets.
  • The importance in embracing flexibility.
  • How Invisible Cities supports future growth for its guides.
