Rooted's mission is to responsibly document, support, celebrate, and share sustainable travel initiatives that put communities first – and to help others do the same. “Helping others” means helping everyone on our collective journey toward sustainable development.
One of the best ways to support a more just, equitable, and sustainable future is to make resources and education more accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live or what their income status is.
That is why pricing for Rooted products is based on the World Bank’s Country and Lending Group data. There are three tiers for pricing, depending on your country’s status as determined by the World Bank.
- Tier 1: High-income economies - Current stated price of product
- Tier 2: Upper middle-income and lower middle-income economies - 15% off tier 1 price
- Tier 3: Low-income economies - 30% off tier 1 price
During the checkout process, you will be asked to self select your tier based on country of residence. Doing so will determine how much you will be charged.
PRICING FAQ
I believe information and education should be accessible for everyone. Single-price products and services can be afforded by some while others are not able to take advantage. This perpetuates a widening income and educational gap. Creating tiers based on the World Bank’s calculations better ensures those in low-income and high-income economies are given equal opportunities.
What is “low” or “inexpensive” to one person is not the same for another. Additionally, this is a business. I can not afford to give away my time, effort, and experience without a monetary exchange that allows me to continue creating resources and sharing information through Rooted.
People in low-income situations are often asked to justify their economic needs. I do not feel it’s appropriate to ask them for additional labor in order to access education and information.
